Eddie Knott Award

Eddie Knott Hurlingham (2) 1962. 2.jpg

Dr Edward Bowes Knott was an Epée Club member who died suddenly of a heart attack in 1979, at the age of 65. He was in the British team for the World Championships of 1953 and 1954 and fenced in many of the major European competitions; twice an Olympic possible, Eddie won the Club’s Boris Berliand Cup (best overall performance) in each of its first five years, 1957 to 1961, and last won it in 1973 when he was almost 60.

Eddie left fencing a legacy in his will, with The Eddie Knott Trophy originally awarded to the winner of the Martini Qualifier, and is now awarded for outstanding achievement in épée. A list of winners is below.
