A Presidential Letter
Dear Member
There has been little unlocking in the world of fencing – save at elite level – and this is a brief update on the outlook for Club activities in the latter half of 2021.
It is unclear when fencing will commence again – even outdoors – and Hurlingham have not contacted us about their intentions this summer. Lansdowne is impossible to contact and my guess is that nothing will be decided by London Clubs until it is an absolute certainty that life can begin to return to normality. Our earliest cup, the Ranelagh on June 26, must be in doubt. I hope that on July 24 the Lavradio can be held with a Dinner at the Hurlingham. Edmund is hoping to host the Marmalade in August. and is arranging a date soon.
Our AGM at the Naval has gone and it is hoped to hold an AGM and Dinner in the autumn when, with luck, a booking can be made and members will be more comfortable with travel to London. Sadly the Naval Club looks to be closing soon for good.
The BFA has announced the death of Keith Smith from cancer. A long standing member of this Club - a friend of many of us - he contributed so much to the sport.
As always see the Club website for latest information.
With best wishes
David
