EC Members Win Medals in Dubai

EC members competed in the Veterans World Championships in Dubai last week. Leading the way was British Fencing CEO Georgina Usher taking gold in the 50+ category followed by a superb result from our men’s épée team to win the bronze medal behind Germany and France respectively.

Georgina’s result meant she retained the world title she won in Daytona last year. Competing in the team event for GB vets were EC members Greg Allen, Hugh Kernohan and Rob Brooks. Having defeated the teams from Hong Kong and Hungary in the pool, the team was seeded sixth in the tableau. Following a closely fought match against the team from New Zealand the team drew the Italians in the last eight. The team overcame some injury issues to win the match 30 - 22 which put them in the semifinal against Germany. The German’s proved too strong for our team who then fenced Poland in the 3rd - 4th playoff. This nail-biting match was decided with EC member Greg Allen bringing home the victory.

Other members of the EC competing at the competition were Sue Brooks 60+ (WE); Mariette Mason 60+ (WE); Sue Uff 70+ (WS, WF). Neal Thomas 60+ (ME).
