Charles H. Biscoe 1875 - 1948
We learn with great regret of the death of Charles H. Biscoe, which occurred on December 22nd, 1948. A founder member of the Amateur Fencing Association, he served on the committee in an active capacity from 1902 to 1939. He was Hon. Treasurer of the Association from 1926 to 1928 and Hon. Secretary from 1928 to 1936, then becoming a Vice-President. Charles will long be remembered as a tireless and energetic organiser, who did much to place the administration of the Association on a sound basis during his ten years of office. A redoubtable épéeist, with a style all his own, he won the Amateur Epée Championship in 1924, and represented Great Britain in international competitions over many years, including the Olympic Games of 1928; his last appearance was as captain of the British team which went to New York in 1934 for the Anglo-American match.
Besides his energy and enthusiasm Charles will be remembered with gratitude for his unfailing interest in younger fencers, many of whom owe their later successes in no small measure to his early encouragement. He gave a life-time of service to British fencing.
